#487 Thriving After a Widowmaker Heart Attack - Featuring Travis Marchant
Our guest this week is 49-year-old Travis Marchant, a hematology/oncology pharmacist at Intermountain Health. Like many American young men, Travis played basketball and football during high school and believed he could do anything physically challenging. As an adult, back injuries tested his perseverance as he transitioned to running and triathlon training. Travis conquered the inaugural full Ironman here in St. George in 2010 but yielded to back surgery the following summer. Perhaps the most significant health challenge he has overcome occurred just over a year ago on what his family has monikered “12% Day.” According to the American Heart Association, only 12% of people survive a widowmaker heart attack that occurs outside of a hospital. Travis will share how this life-altering experience has affected him and his family.
